Message Ok we are mostly motorheads here who have no qualms about modifying cars. I'll admit that some mods have their downsides. And I think keeping things stock can be a noble goal....

But ionstram is right - the engineers at Nissan made some compromises that are far from perfect. Precats look horrific (from an engineering standpoint). They increase heat in the engine compartment, add unnecessary weight etc. Similarly the restrictive air intake is just that restrictive. But by going to the cone filter you will get some intake resonance noise. I like it but I could see some people might not.

But the most significant engineering defect is the brakes. They are pretty bad for any spirited driving. Actually they aren't that good even from a safety standpoint - try to lock your ABS on dry road at 60 MPH - can't do it. (Well maybe by 96 they changed the brake compound and you can but I've never heard that).

Now as far as power goes, I personally bought the TT so that I wouldn't want any more power. And that worked for a while ... Then 300HP just doesn't feel like so much after a while. And with 400 so easy to get ... (insert drug addict reference here)

And the last argument for some mods is that technology has progressed from 1990 (even 96). The best example is HID lights. Even Nissan put them on the Z in Japan in the later years. No doubt they are far superior. Another example is the stereo - stock really sucks there.

Good luck.
